Events
The simple act of an introduction can be tremendously powerful. The Exchange’s stage provides us with a spotlight that introduces ideas and people to storytellers. Our events also create the basis for ongoing interactions in the form of our consults. They inform and inspire by showcasing amazing STEM speakers. The Exchange has produced more than 400 events over 15 years.
Event Formats
The Science & Entertainment Exchange maintains an active event calendar, primarily in Los Angeles but also in New York City.
Attendance is by invitation only. You can sometimes find us sponsoring panels or workshops at film festivals

Salons
Our salons are the Exchange’s signature event. These intimate evenings are held in the homes of Hollywood professionals and are as social as they are informative. Serving audiences of between 50-80 people, they begin with an informal meal and lead up to a 20-minute science talk, with plenty of time to mix and mingle in between. We would recommend hosting several salons over the year, with topics and speakers mutually determined after the workshop.
Science Speed Dating
The hugely popular format, Science Speed Dating (N.B, no actual dating is involved) brings together seven speakers to present seven-minute micro talks to seven small audiences, in quick succession. Depending on the venue, audience size ranges between 80-200. Although the meta-topic would be climate, each of the seven speakers would address a different aspect of this big, broad subject.

Retreat
In our experience, there is no better way to “friend raise” in Hollywood than one of our retreats. It’s the ideal way in which to quickly generate good will and grease the wheels of cooperation. Since 2014, The Exchange has hosted 19 filmmaker retreats. These are intensive weekend experiences meant to engender a deep interest in the sciences and to demonstrate the way in which science can serve as a unique source of inspiring stories and incredible characters, effectively breaking down any resistance or reluctance that might exist. These experiences have fostered dozens of interesting collaborations.
